One-Part vs Two-Part vs Three-Part Systems
Nutrient systems are classified by how many components you mix to create your nutrient solution.
One-part systems (like MaxiGro or an all-in-one liquid) have everything pre-blended. You add one product to water and you are done. The simplicity is excellent for beginners, but you lose the ability to adjust individual nutrient ratios as plant needs change through growth stages.
Two-part systems (like Canna Coco A+B) provide more flexibility. Part A typically contains calcium and iron, Part B contains phosphorus and potassium, with micronutrients split across both. Adding both in equal ratios gives a balanced solution, but you can adjust the ratio for different growth stages.
Three-part systems (like General Hydroponics Flora Series) provide maximum flexibility. You can dramatically adjust NPK ratios for seedlings, vegetative growth, and fruiting by changing the ratio of the three components. More learning curve, but also the system used by most commercial operations worldwide.
Our recommendation for beginners: start with a quality one-part system to learn pH and EC management without the complexity of multi-part mixing. Once you understand your system, graduate to a two or three-part formula.
