Your Growing Journey Starts Here

From Zero to Harvest
in 3 Weeks

Our beginner's roadmap gives you a clear, step-by-step path to growing fresh food hydroponically — no prior experience needed.

01

Choose Your System

Not all hydroponic systems are created equal. We recommend these three for beginners:

Deep Water Culture (DWC)

Bucket-based system with an air pump. Fast growth, simple setup. Cost: ~$60–$100.

  • ✅ Extremely fast growth
  • ✅ Scalable
  • ❌ Needs air pump & timer

Nutrient Film Technique (NFT)

Continuous thin stream of nutrients over roots. Best for leafy greens at scale.

  • ✅ Very water efficient
  • ✅ Commercial-grade
  • ❌ Higher initial cost

03

Germinate Your Seeds

Pre-soak rockwool cubes in pH 5.5 water for 1 hour. Plant one seed per cube, 5–6mm deep. Keep moist (not waterlogged) in a warm spot (22–26°C) and germination will occur in 3–7 days.

💡

Pro tip: Cover your germination tray with plastic wrap or a humidity dome to maintain moisture. Remove it once the seedlings emerge.

04

Mix Your Nutrient Solution

Always mix nutrients into plain water — never combine concentrates directly. For leafy greens in the seedling stage, target pH 5.8–6.0 and EC 0.8–1.2 mS/cm.

⚠️

Common mistake: Adding too many nutrients too soon causes nutrient burn. Start at half-strength and increase as plants mature.

05

Transplant & Grow

Once roots are visible at the base of the rockwool (usually 7–14 days), transplant into your hydroponic system. Monitor pH and EC daily for the first week, then every 2–3 days once stable.

Day 1Germination / seed planted
Day 5–7Seedling emerges
Day 10–14Roots visible — transplant
Day 18–25Rapid vegetative growth
Day 21–35🎉 First harvest!
06

Harvest & Scale Up

For lettuce, harvest outer leaves continuously to extend your harvest window by weeks. After your first successful grow, you'll have the confidence and knowledge to scale up to larger systems and more challenging crops.
